SaturnCamApplet - The KDE Kicker Applet for your Saturn camcorder
introduction
So you went to the local CVS store and bought this one-time digital camcorder and just happened to have a spare of one of those old USB kabels ? You just by curiosity soldered the USB cabel to the camcorder and want to look at your recorded movies now ? This application might help you (assuming that you run a
real
operating system and run KDE on top of it...): The SaturnCamApplet for the KDE kicker.
features
runs in KDE kicker bar
shows current connection status of your Saturn camcorder
dynamically detects a newly connected or disconnected camcorder
shows the number of movies stored on your camcorder if connected
syncronize the camcorder time with your PC time
shows basic information as tooltips: camcorder model and revision, movie information
download your movies from the camcorder to any directory on your PC
remove all movies from your camcorder to free up space again
allows to switch camcorder to USB mass storage mode (access your camcorder then like any USB memory stick or hard drive)
remotely power down your camcorder when done
get detailed debug logs in a log file
supported platforms
The SaturnCamApplet was designed to run on KDE 3.3 or higher running on a x86 machine. It might work on even more platforms, you should just give it a try if your interested in this applet.

Easily add the SaturnCamApplet to your KDE kicker bar
Select the SaturnCamApplet from the list of applets
The LED is displayed in red while your Saturn camcorder is disconnected.
The LED is green and shows some basic information as soon as you connect your camcorder to a USB port.
Move the mouse over the digit to get some information about the movies on your camcorder
Press left or right mouse button to get to the context menu.
Download your movies from the camcorder to your PC
Switch to mass storage mode to access your camcorder with the konqueror like any USB hard drive.
Get additional information about your movies like frame rate and resolution (only when in USB mass storage mode)
Your movies are in subdirectory "100coach" (only when in USB mass storage mode)
Use the media players 'xine' or 'mplayer' to play your movies directly from camcorder (only when in USB mass storage mode)
